Happy Holidays: December on Martha's Vineyard.

It’s no wonder people love spending the holidays here on Martha’s Vineyard.

December was a whirlwind of things to do, with one of the highlights being “Christmas in Edgartown” which is held over the second weekend of the month and has been a eagerly anticipated event for 35 years.  The four day weekend event in Edgartown is literally lit up with festivities and twinkling things to do: Donaromas annual Christmas light display always draws the crowds especially for their wreath making workshop with it's endless supply of sumptuous swag, tinsel and berries… There’s an elves faire, live music, dancing, eating, shopping, movies and more … it goes on all weekend with one of the highlights being the Parade at 11am on the Saturday. It’s like July 4th ( but colder!).  It was freezing, this year the sun was shining and so it didn’t put off the  hundreds of visitors that flocked to town to cheer on the floats.

Events around the holidays include, the Lighting of the Edgartown Lighthouse, Hay Rides with Santa, Holiday readings, Ice Skating, Chorus and Handbell concerts and lots more!

The final weeks of December are also busy with end of year school concerts.  The MVRHS Mini Singers performed two concerts at the Old Whaling Church, there were dance recitals and Holiday pageants all brought grandparents, aunts and uncles to proudly witness the talents of our Vineyard children.

The Rise holiday show was last weekend.  In its 10th year this private dance school produces some amazing talent and this year’s show did not disappoint. The event has raised close to $60,000 in the past 10 years which benefits the schools scholarship fund, giving more vineyard children opportunity to dance.   The talent of these dancers are a credit to the school and the teachers.

The all island band concert was also last week.  We wrote about the summer concert here earlier this year.  Again, an amazing collaboration of our 4 island elementary schools’ kids and their teachers.

And of course the star on top of the Christmas tree is the Tea Lane Holiday party, where we get to gather with our colleagues and industry friends and family, thank everyone around us for their support and celebrate another great year in real estate on Martha’s Vineyard.  Thanks to Gina and the staff at the wonderful Art Cliff Diner for putting on a wonderful spread!

Happy holidays to everyone, thanks for a great year and see you in 2017!
