Red Stocking Fund: Making A Difference

The Red Stocking Fund is Martha's Vineyard's answer to Santa and his elves.  This entirely volunteer staffed non-profit was started during the Great Depression by two local women knitting stockings, and filling them with a few small toys as a way to give Island children in need of a Merry Christmas.

The organization has grown and strengthened, and now raises thousands of dollars for holiday meals, children's winter clothing, and of course gifts of toys and books for local kids from birth to eighth grade. In 2016 over 340 families were served.

Tea Lanes gifts wrapped and ready for delivery

Tea Lane Associates decided to get involved this year by sponsoring a child.  Sponsoring is anonymous - as a sponsor we received the age, gender and Christmas wish list of the child.  The entire office got involved and had so much fun shopping for dolls, a pink snowsuit, and princess pajamas! As many have said about the experience of Red Stocking giving, we definitely got more than we gave.  We'll do it again next year and are happy to share the Red Stocking contact information if any friends of Tea Lane would like to help next year.

Follow the Red Stocking Fund on Facebook to keep up with what they are doing and find ways to get involved.
