Sold:Two Antique Homes With Stories To Tell

Two classic Vineyard antique homes sold recently, each with unique and interesting pasts:

The first one was once home to the author and activist Lillian Hellman, and was first listed exclusively by Tea Lane Associates for $4,395,000 earlier in 2017.

29 Mill House Way is a stately antique home, with a seperate barn and a wing comprising of a converted antique Mill dating back to the mid 1700's. 

The property, which overlooks the Vineyard Sound and Vineyard Haven harbor, can been seen as you arrive by ferry boat from Woods Hole. With a grassy yard that leads down to over 150 feet of private sandy beach front, one can imagine generations of families enjoying summer days here - relaxing on the porch and down on the waters edge, fishing, boating and swimming - relishing in the long languid days of summer. I'm sure many cocktails were sipped while contemplating a tennis match over at West Chop or a round of golf at Mink Meadows.  The home tells of a bygone era and one is left wondering about the stories that must have been told here, noteably by the the Mill House's most famous occupant, Lillan Hellman, and her friends and family.

The home sold for $3,800,000 on December 21st 2017,  and as far as we know, the new owners are planning on rennovating, but keeping the character of the home.  A refreshing change from the typical desire to modernise and update for todays convenieces. Its nice to think that the charm and granduer of this Vineyard Haven landmark will hopefully last another generation or two.

The second of our Antique homes that sold recently was this lovely Greek Revival home set on 21 acres in the Indian Hill area of West Tisbury.  Tea Lane brought the buyer of the property and a facinating story with them.  We can't reveal the whole story here but hope to be able to tell it at a later date.  Suffice to say that a twist of fate brought these "new" owners  to this familer place.  We cant wait to share what they do at the property here.... watch this space!

The home came on the market in Summer of 2017 for $1,950,000 and closed on January 9th 2018 for $1,840,000.
