A vibrant contributor to Martha's Vineyard's winter social scene, is the Vineyard Haven Playhouse, which thankfully continues to entertain the islands year round residents through the off season. Here's as snippet of what February has to offer:

It’s not often you stumble upon a Japanese dance performance in the middle of Menemsha on a Monday evening!

Each Mother’s Day weekend, Featherstone Center for the Arts celebrates the coming of spring by opening their “Art of Flowers” exhibition.  Now in its 20th year, this event kicks off the summer art season in style and is tagged to be their busiest show of the Featherstone calendar.

It's the 5th Annual Pink and Green weekend in Edgartown over the forthcoming weekend! The rotton rainy week here on the Vineyard has everyones fingers crossed for some sunshine for Edgartowns celebration of Spring. Whatever the weather there are many events planned including the Pink & Green Kentucky Derby Party, Mother’s Day Brunches, sales and promotions at many stores as they softly open for the season, and the 4th Annual Pub Crawl. See the Edgartown Board of Trade website for the complete weekends events.

Last year we wrote here in our blog about the massive enigneering project that occurred in Aquinnah, to move the Historic Gay Head Lighthouse away from the 175 foot bluff on the western tip of Martha's Vineyard.

Over a week later and there's still a "16th Annual Martha's Vineyard Film Festival buzz" about town! I keep bumping into people that were there and we are still exchanging experiences, asking questions, and discussing the impact each of the movies we saw had on us!

Given any usual wintry Saturday night on Martha’s Vineyard and you might be inclined to think most islanders would be cozied up in front of a roaring fire with a good book or a movie. But around once a month you will find a good many winter residents of all ages at the Chilmark Community Center, which is transformed into a coffee house style music venue by Alex Karalekas and his team of volunteers.

The annual summer benefit for Sheriff’s Meadow Foundation took place Monday July 20th.  Set on the beautiful Borggaard Farm on Indian Hill Road in West Tisbury, it was a wonderful location for people from all over the Island to get together and celebrate the foundation’s accomplishments.  President Chris Alley, and Executive Director Adam Moore each spoke to a captivated audience. Photographs of the various properties Sheriff’s Meadow has maintained and protected such as the antique Mayhew-Hancock-Mitchell house and Quansoo Farm flashed on large screens as guests dined.  This event was another reminder of how fortunate we are to have so many people dedicated to preserving our Island.
