April 2019 First weekend of Spring!

April 8th and temperatures on Martha's Vineyard reached the 60's this past weekend giving us a teaser and taste of summer days to come. Supporters were peeling off the layers at the various Spring sports games across the island on Saturday, restaurants are re-opening and revealing new decor and delicious menus, daffodils are starting to bloom and the garden centers are starting to get stocked up for Easter as year round residents start to come out of hibernation or return from winter travels to open up their homes
It felt like the whole island showed up to the West Tisbury Ag hall on Saturday night, for the fund raising Hoe Down for Flat Point Farm. The parking fields were as full as the third week of August (for the Ag Fair), and the barn was packed with locals dancing to Island musicians including Kate Taylor, Johnny Hoy and Mike Benjamin. A huge long table of pot luck food was crammed, and desserts and drinks were flowing. Art by Vineyard artists was on sale to help raise money to rebuild the West Tisbury farm, which suffered from a tragic fire, loosing livestock and a barn, last month. We were delighted to see Chilmark Chocolates were open this weekend and will be again next weekend for all your Easter treats. On the down side, they announced earlier this winter that, this will be their last summer after 33 years of chocolate making in Chilmark ... we cant quite believe it. Here's an interestng article from the New York Times in 1987, describing the fledgling company and how it got started.
Featherstone Center for the Arts opened their latest exhibit entitled "Silver and Gold" which displayed artwork, jewlery, clothing and sculpture from 69 artists from across the island. The exhibit will be up until may 5th. As always the opening was bustling and the lighter evenings meant people stayed a while to reconect, chat and enjoy the art. The art center has recently added Noepe Center for The Literary Arts to their offerings as it continues to grow and become a true center for all the arts on Martha's Vineyard. We're excited to see whats in store for 2019.
