Mid Century Menemsha - Rent This Iconic Water View Property

Back in the 1950's, when the Vineyard started to gain popularity as an affordable summer destination for artists, academics, architects and the like, Chilmark was a rural community with cheap land, beautiful beaches and a laid back pace.  Eliot Fette Noyes, one of the modernist architects known as "The Harvard Five", visited his friends Erik and Vibeke Simonsen, who were renting in Chilmark during the summers.  Vibeke Simonsen was an interior designer who partnered with Noyes and others in the Harvard Five.

In 1959 Noyes designed the Simonsen vacation House at  37 Flanders Lane, which was one of 4 homes he designed on the island and was  featured in Architectural Record, May 1962 (page 141 &142).

The house was renovated by Elliot's son, Fred Noyes in 1981 and it remains in the Simonsen family today.  With 3 bedrooms and 2 baths the 2500 square foot home lives cozy with an open concept living space that spills out to a deck overlooking Menemsha Pond;  A nod to simple summer living from the 1950's and '60's and an experience not to miss if you're a fan of mid century architecture.  It is available as a rental property through Tea Lane Associates, click the link to check it out and contact us to check pricing and availability.
