The Martha's Vineyard Playhouse: “Where the Off Season is the On Season”
Have a Question?
A vibrant contributor to Martha's Vineyard's winter social scene, is the Vineyard Haven Playhouse, which thankfully continues to entertain the islands year round residents through the off season. Here's as snippet of what February has to offer:
The past Saturday night was the Shakespeare for the Masses performance of King John. Perhaps a lessor known of Shakespeare's plays the production was back at The Playhouse by popular demand, for one night only. King John, a role that has been played by female actors in the past, is played by Chelsea McCarthy,… described as a “Trumpian King John” with some parallels to our current political climate no doubt....nothing much changes in 400 years!
Throughout the winter the Patricia Neal Stage is host to Monday Night At The Movies, brought to The Playhouse in association with Island Entertainment. January was dedicated to movies starring the theaters namesake, Patricia Neal, with screenings of classics suchs as Hud, Fountainhaed and In Harms Way. Februarys theme is musicals and kicks off tomorrow, Monday February 6th with “Cabin in the Sky” the 1943 classic with Ethel Waters and Louise Armstrong. See website for more details of the months movie line up.
All movies start at 7pm and theres a $5,00 entrance fee.
February 7th the Marilyn Meyerhoff Lobby is host to the Poetry Cafe, hosted by Fan Ogilvie, with guest poets Chris Legge, Judith Neeld, Rose Styron and Emma Young. The evening kicks off at 7:30pm
On february 10th local fishermen share their “Fish Tales” with the Vineyard. Guaranteed to be entertaining and fun evening, tales will be told by many local fishermen including Jeffrey P. Canha, Teddy Karalekas, Peter Cox and more. 7.30 pm
