There's lots going on for Memorial Day 2018 as the islands restaurants and hotels have been gradually opening up after this long winter stretch. On Friday before the Memorial Day weekend its a tradition for some of the schools on the island to honor the men and women who have served with an annual Walk to the Sea. The Tisbury School children walk down to the harbor and throw flowers in at Owen Park and the children of the Chilmark School do the same in Menemsha. On Thursday 24th until Sunday 27th May there’s a focus on nature weekend presented by Yoga on MV and the Martha’s Vineyard Film Society. Film and Yoga are the focus for the Nature as Inspiration events. A weekend Films for the MV Environmental Film Festival can be seen at the Film Centre in Vineyard Haven and each day MV Yoga will be offering a Creative Yoga Class – check the websites for the schedules
If you’re heading to West Tisbury over the weekend be sure to check out the Friends of Family Planning Art Show and sale at the new Agricultural Hall. After 28 years this much anticipated Memorial Day weekend event will be the last. The fundraiser that has brought dozens of Vineyard artists and art collectors together over the almost 3 decades has served its purpose as the final mortgage payment is made on their premises in Vineyard Haven. Serving the islands reproductive health and well being, Family Planning intends to continue to raise awareness for its needs through other avenues in the future.
The final Friends of Family Planning art show will kick off with an opening launch party on Thursday, May 24 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Agricultural Hall in West Tisbury. The show will run on Friday and Saturday May 25 and 26 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday May 27 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
On Saturday and Sunday the Martha’s Vineyard Artisan Fair commences for the summer. With hundreds of island artists with talents that span all kinds of arts and crafts, this weekly fair is located both inside and outside the Grange Hall in West Tisbury village. Go check out what the arts and crafts-folk of the Island have been busy with this winter.
