September on Martha’s Vineyard is a magical month and were all breathing again after the excitement of summer. Vineyarders love this month as the daytime temperatures hover between the mid 60s to 70s and evenings are much more comfortable than the sweltering July and August nights.
Restaurants remain open for a few more months, and eating out gets a whole lot easier in the fall. Even though some restaurants might shorten their hours towards the end of September, it's still easier to secure a table than it was a month ago. Restaurants typically also offer deals and happy hours in September too and staff are more relaxed and friendly as there’s no rush to move you on for a second sitting.
Check out the restaurant guides here offered by MVOL and call ahead for opening times, as things can sometimes change during the off season.
September also rewards us with some spectacular wonders of nature and our attention goes the beaches and the coastline. And not just because some beaches become more easily accessible, but also for the amazing fishing. Hundreds, if not thousands, of people flock to the island for the Martha’s Vineyard Striped bass and Blue Fish Derby and the chance to win a boat or a truck, which is held mid septembr to mid october.
And while were out there its impossilbe not to catch one of Septembers sunsets made even more spectacular by the fall cloud formations. Blue skies and fluffy clouds have everyone grabbing their iphones in anticipation of the evenings sunset. Throw in a sprinkling of rain and combine with some sunshine, its a photographers dream to catch a double rainbow over the harbor with one of our tall ships setting sail. You're guaranteed some very impressive "Instagrammable" moments!
Check out our many talented photogprahers on social media, including Michael Blanchards photogrpahy for some amazing examples.
